Bone Marrow Donors The José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation was created in 1988 in Barcelona on the initiative of the tenor José Carreras. The purpose of the Foundation is to sponsor the research in the fight against leukemia, to facilitate the application of new techniques in hospital centers and to offer service to patients and their relatives. Its essential concern, however, is supporting research work and the administration of a registry of non-related Bone-Marrow Donors, in which more than one million donors are registered .
